| Young Blood: International Success Factor [more] |
At the beginning of September, the two managing directors of Wanzl, Gottfried Wanzl and Dr. Hans-Jürgen Sattler, welcomed 20 trainees into the Wanzl plant in Leipheim to begin their careers. Twelve of the new apprentices are training as industrial mechanics, four are training in industrial business management, two as electronic technicians, one as a machinery and plant operator, and one as a surface coater. For the first time, Wanzl also took on two students from the private Technical College for Applied Management in Erding, Germany, who commence their studies at the start of the winter 2007/2008 semesters in October at the new campus in Günzburg. Both students have registered for courses in the fields of economics and technology. The private, dual model of studies, so far unique in Bavaria and supported financially by Wanzl, is based on the close coupling of academic teaching with practical training during course time. Wanzl also demonstrated entrepreneurial dedication and responsibility in the training of young people by taking on the existing trainees of its insolvent competitor Siegel: all six apprentices were able to continue their training at Wanzl. At the Wanzl plant in Kirchheim, the management team recruited another eight young men to train as precision mechanics, and machinery and plant operators.
As an internationally operating company with over 3,300 employees and production facilities in Germany, France, the Czech Republic and China, together with 18 branches and numerous agencies in all important markets worldwide, Wanzl depends on well-trained young talent in the hard-fought international market. Managing director Gottfried Wanzl sees "preparing these young people optimally for their professional lives" as both an aspiration and a challenge. "Because only with their help can we secure and expand our worldwide market position in the future." The payoff to the trainees for their work is regularly documented in the outstanding test results of the Wanzl apprentices: this year, four trainees in Leipheim and Kirchheim obtained some of the best test results for their year. |

Customer retention by entertaining children
For a pleasant and stress-free shopping experience with the kids, Wanzl now presents the >Fun Mobil Compact< service shopping trolley. With this model, shopping is fun for children - and their parents. At the same time, the markets benefit from longer stays by the customer, higher revenues and increased retention of both longstanding and new customers. Because kids want to go where they can ride the >Fun Mobil Compact<.
Lots of space for goods
The new >Fun Mobil Compact< incorporates a wealth of innovative features: The shopping baskets have a total volume of 140 litres, and so are also ideal for big shopping trips. The kids sit in the sturdy plastic car as you shop, secured by a seatbelt which is supplied as standard. Like a real car, the Wanzl designers developed integrated head and body protection for the chassis. And while the young ones can play around with the steering while, the parents pushing the trolley control the direction it travels in. In addition to the four original Wanzl standard castors, a fifth castor mounted at the center of the trolley base ensures that the trolley moves comfortably and safely, and is easy to manoeuvre. For use on travelators, the model can be equipped with original Wanzl travelator castors. Another standard feature mounted on the basket is the plastic bumper with integrated advertising surface, whic protects the trolley and shop fittings. The >Fun Mobil Compact< is available in a two-colour blue and yellow finish. Different colour combinations are available on request. Wanzl offers an extensive range of accessories for this new product, such as custom-designed advertising inserts for the handles, flagpoles for visual effect and as anti-theft protection, and the >Solid< coin deposit system.
Complete range
With the new >Fun Mobil Compact< model, Wanzl completes its trolley series for shopping with children, already extremely successful for many years: the >Fun Car< with 80- and 130- litre basket versions, the >Fun Cabrio< with 80-litre basket volume, and the >Fun Truck< for heavy and bulky loads.

| A handle on everything [more] |
A handle on everything
Power steering comes as standard on modern cars, helping the driver to optimally transmit their steering effort to the vehicle. "Power steering" is now available for steering trolleys with a basket volume of more than 100 litres – it is called "Comfort handle" and is an innovation from Wanzl. The Comfort handle has been designed according to ergonomic principles and ensures anatomically correct positioning of the wrist thanks to its forward inclination. Wanzl has also adapted the gripping area to the inner geometry of palms and fingers to guarantee a comfortable, tireless grip and therefore perfect transmission of the pushing and steering effort. This means that larger and fully laden shopping trolleys in particular can be more safely manoeuvred and controlled. At the same time, the unique and visually attractive design is a clearly visible signal of greater customer commitment. A market survey carried out by Wanzl incidentally revealed that 80 percent of all customers preferred shopping trolley models that were equipped with the innovative Comfort handle. Wanzl can also supply the Comfort handle with the integrated Starbox coin deposit system on request.
A further innovation from Wanzl is the Infobox, an effective advertising tool that can be ideally combined with the Comfort handle. The A5 promotional inserts can be quickly replaced, without the need for tools, to keep customers informed about new offers and campaigns in-store at all times. This guarantees up-to-date alternating advertising in an instant. A further advantage of the Infobox is that the plastic housing has a soft component on the front to protect a child sitting in the child seat. The Infobox can be retrofitted to existing stocks of shopping trolleys.

| Wanzl – Partner of the retail trade [more] |
In 1947 Rudolf Wanzl Sr. and his son Rudolf established a coachbuilding and repair workshop in Leipheim, Germany. A pilot project in Augsburg opened the way into self-service retail. In 1949 Wanzl supplied 20 'PICK UP' shopping trolleys to Germany´s first ever self-service store in Hamburg. From that point onwards the name of Wanzl has been synonymous with the world of self-service retail. In 1950 along came the space-saving 'CONCENTRA', a nesting trolley with a fixed basket, and a stackable shopping basket with a patent-protected folding handle. Ever since, Wanzl has kept coming up with new innovations that set standards in the world of modern shopping and retailing. In just a few years Wanzl achieved European market leadership in the sector, and today – 61 years after the company was founded – Wanzl is a global concern with seven business divisions: Self-Service Systems, Displays, Shopfitting, Security Products, Logistics+Industry, Passenger Handling Services and Hotel Service.
Local service to the global market
Wanzl has production facilities in Germany, France, the Czech Republic and China, and 18 subsidiaries and over 40 representatives in all the key markets around the world. This underlines the company´s stated commitment to providing a local service to its customers around the globe. With over 3,300 employees, Wanzl develops and manufactures the most comprehensive product programme available today on the market. In shopping trolleys Wanzl is the global market leader, turning out over two million in 2007 alone. The company has also made a name for itself in airport service and in logistics and industry. For many years a wide range of transport solutions from Wanzl have been in service at airports around the world. Travellers particularly like the luggage trolleys because they are light and easy to use. Wanzl is constantly expanding its product programme and is now also offering a wide range of products to the hotel and catering trades. Whatever the customer wants, Wanzl delivers customer-specific mature solutions that meet the requirements. Last year Wanzl was awarded the Bavarian Quality Prize 2007 for its high standards of quality, achieved through an integrated total quality management system in operation throughout the company. The prize is awarded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology, in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich. |

| Exciting ideas for tomorrow´s world of shopping [more] |
Getting and keeping customers is all about having attractive products. In time for EuroShop 2008, Wanzl´s Shopfitting Division is launching not only a whole series of interesting new developments but also brand new solutions. The company offers a full range of services for all aspects of shopfittings – from concept, design and planning to project co-ordination, production and realisation – all precisely tailored to the wishes and needs of the customers.
“Our role is that of a partner who points out new directions, develops ideas and opens up new potential,” explains Peter Wetzstein, Head of the Shopfitting Division at Wanzl. His team tracks all the latest trends and market developments, and is always ready to respond. Stores that want to be ahead of the competition these days – whether in the food or non-food sector – need to offer their customers real experiential value. Some coffee shops are showing one way of doing this, with product ranges that change completely every week, under slogans like ‘Each week a new world for you!’. Peter Wetzstein: ‘‘The shop layout keeps this promise right through to the PoS – the corporate identity is turned into something customers can feel and grasp.”
At EuroShop 2008 Wanzl´s Shopfitting Division is showing what can be done and taking a glimpse at what the future holds. At the heart of their display are the new developments, ‘duo tech’ and ‘scindo tech’, both of which offer interesting new design possibilities. But with the brand new ‘agilo’ display and the ‘balloon’ table news, Wanzl is also injecting a breath of fresh air and originality. The items displayed within these units are a real eye-catcher, thanks also to the design of the display. What is true of new developments is also true of the new generations of the existing system solutions ‘alu tech’, ‘wire tech’ and ‘high rack’: a brighter look, more flexibility and clever details characterise these new versions. Whatever the shop – a fashion boutique, sports shop, chemists, toy shop, household store or electrical retailer – these new ideas open up all kinds of design options for the various sectors.
In developing its new ideas, the team of experts from Wanzl´s Shopfitting Division also has an eye on high-selling products such as cosmetics, wine and fruit and vegetables. How these sections are presented is critical to the impression the shoppers have of the store. What´s needed are innovative suggestions, that make shopping a pleasure for the end consumer – from promotional displays for alternating special offers to the use of new media that enable enhanced service and a more exciting store experience.
Peter Wetzstein: ‘‘We aim to create visual identities and solutions that keep surprising our customers.” Whether displays, customised solutions or system solutions, one thing is clear: Wanzl´s customers all benefit from the company´s wide experience in a range of different sectors and from the infrastructure of the whole company. Wanzl Shopfitting caters for large-volume series production, as well as the realisation of bespoke smaller orders. |

| Good ideas always come back into fashion: back in 1947, Wanzl developed the "Cona" shopping trolley with two detachable baskets. The new trolley was ideally suited to the limited sales spaces and minimal display room of the emerging self-service trade in Germany. Exactly 60 years later, Wanzl now presents its new "Pick-up" trolley, which combines the advantages of the "Cona" model with the requirements of modern shopping. The "Pick-up" is the optimal aid for a small shopping trip, is ideal for smaller stores in town centres and is an additional alternative for shops that already use larger shopping trolleys. The handy and stackable "Pick-up" scores points with customers due to its versatility: the trolley can be equipped with two stable, attractive "GT26" shopping baskets and also provides room for a PET bottle container. Alternatively, the model can also hold one basket and one drinks crate. In addition, customers have the option of just grabbing the basket: its concave shape and carry handle with specially moulded grip surface make for comfortable shopping. Wanzl supplies the "GT26" basket in various contemporary colours, and advertising surfaces can be included on request. |

| Boosting sales at PoS [more] |
Cost-effective and environmentally friendly
Current examples include the new action displays for Osram, for Christmas World, which produces Christmas products, and for Nachtmann, a manufacturer of lead crystal. All three displays, made from high-quality wire and metal components, are extremely durable and stay looking good for a long time. After the original promotion has finished, the displays can be fitted out with different accessories, for use in further promotions. This kind of multiple application means that the displays are both a cost-effective and an environmentally-friendly investment for the retail trade and for industry.
‘Paletti’ display for Osram
Specially for the global lighting manufacturer Osram, Wanzl has developed the ‘Paletti’ display for presentation of light bulbs at PoS. Made of wire, this stand-alone display has high visual impact and is easily accessible from two sides. Blister hooks can be fitted as required into the display, to take lighting components of different sizes. The display stands on a Europallet which can be easily moved from place to place in the store using a hoist. At the top of the display is a high-visibility sign bearing Osram´s corporate CI; this is repeated in the panel around the pallet. After use the display can be folded up – no need for any tools – and stored to save space.
‘System-Shop’ display for Christmas World
Christmas World is a co-operation between seven companies, all of which produce Christmas products. Wanzl has supplied this co-operative with a custom-made, highly stable wire-and-tube display called ‘System Shop’, also designed for long-term use. The display can be fitted as required with wire shelves, side baskets and other accessories, all individually tailored for the presentation of the selected items. A metal-system pallet enables easy transport of the system to another location, using a low-lift platform truck. Depending on the style of presentation, a range of top panels can be used, individually printed to suit the application.
Sales display for Nachtmann
Nachtmann, a manufacturer of high-quality lead crystal, is using special metal-framed displays made by Wanzl that feature push-fit presentation spaces. These quick-assembly metal-framed displays are ideal for presenting special offers or for secondary placement. Advertising can be slotted into the display to support branding, and changed just as quickly, when needed to fit in with ongoing promotions.
New website about displays
As of this year, Wanzl has a new-look website for its Displays Business Division: www.wanzl-displays.de. |

| Lots of space in the basket [more] |
Lots of space in the basket
PET bottle packs have become a familiar feature in most supermarkets and consumer acceptance of alcohol-free beverages in particular in PET bottles is by now extremely high. That is why Wanzl is now presenting the new "ELP" shopping trolley model with extendable swing rack for convenient and safe transport of large-volume PET and other bulk packs. The "ELP" model is a further innovation from the "EL" shopping trolley series developed by Wanzl in cooperation with the retail trade. A special feature of the successful "EL" series is the elegant chassis without any racks for storing merchandise to prevent inventory differences. To create lots of space in the basket at the same time, Wanzl added the "ELA" model with extendable crate holder to the series some time ago and is now adding the "ELP" version with swing rack specially for supermarkets with PET packs. The "ELP" shopping trolley will allow all commercially-available bottle packs to be easily stowed in the future at knee height on the integrated swing rack. A single touch is all that is needed to extend the swing rack that automatically latches into the end position. The customer then has both hands free for stowing the items. Wanzl offers the new "ELP" shopping trolley series in four basket volumes from 150 to 240 litres. One or two PET bottle packs can be carried in the swing rack depending on the model. Ideally, the swing rack will also provide secure and space-saving storage for other bulk packs such as washing powder, for example. And even with this heavy load, the manoeuvrability as well as the ease of steering of the new shopping trolley is fully retained. The "ELP" model also increases security in-store: the goods being carried in the swing rack are directly in the line of sight of till staff, helping to reduce inventory differences. After use, the "ELP" shopping trolleys can be compactly pushed into each other in the trolley row, whereupon the swing rack automatically retracts.

| Wanzl has its eye on the future [more] |
"Training programmes are a way of investing in the future, in the strengthening of Swabia as a location for business and in market leadership in international competition“, explains Gottfried Wanzl, Managing Partner of Wanzl, taking clear stock. And so the Wanzl team of trainers welcomed another 31 junior employees to the plants in Leipheim and Kirchheim this September to start a successful professional life. Twelve industrial mechanics, five industrial experts, two electronics installers, one precision mechanic as well as one surface coater are being trained at the Leipheim location. Wanzl also welcomed a student from the Intercultural Management course at the University of Applied Management in Erding with a branch at the Günzburg campus as well as a student from the Production Engineering course at the University of Applied Sciences in Ulm. In addition, a further eight trainees started at the Kirchheim location.
Guarantors for the success of tomorrow
During their training, the new junior employees will learn how to help shape the future success of Wanzl as a world market leader for shopping trolleys and as one of the leading partners to the international retail trade. Wanzl currently has over 3,700 employees in seven production facilities in Germany, France, the Czech Republic and China. 18 subsidiaries and over 40 agencies ensure international market proximity worldwide for customers on-site. Wanzl will open its next branch in the strongly-growing Indian market at the beginning of 2009, followed in the spring by the inauguration of the new administration section including a reception centre for customers as well as a training area at the corporate head office in Leipheim. Wanzl is thus making a clear commitment to Swabia and at the same time is fully aware of the challenges facing it as a global player on the world market: "The trainees and students learning today at Wanzl are the managers of tomorrow and, for us, guarantors of our future success on the international market", affirms Gottfried Wanzl. The team of trainers at Wanzl is also aware of its responsibilities in view of the task facing it in this new academic year and is anxious to repeat the successes of the past, which see the Wanzl trainees consistently achieving among the best test results in Swabia for their year.

| New 90-litre ‘Tango’ trolley [more] |
|
Wanzl presents yet another new innovation – a 90-litre basket version of the plastic ‘Tango’ trolley. This model is ideal for shoppers in a hurry and for customers who like to eat very fresh produce and so shop frequently. Shops that provide their customers the choice of a small ‘Tango 90’, as well as the other larger versions, are giving real added benefit, appreciated in particular by the growing group of single-person households and older people. The 90-litre ‘Tango’ now joins its bigger siblings, the 160- and 220-litre versions.
RFID-compatible
All the ‘Tango’ models combine top-quality materials and superb workmanship with lasting good looks and years of faithful service. Another benefit is that the ‘Tango’ shopping trolley series can make a real contribution to reducing stock losses – the plastic basket has no metal fittings, so enables virtually 100% detection of EAS labels. Also, the new model has been designed with future developments in RFID technology in mind.
Another advantage of the ‘Tango’ trolleys is their low weight. The basket, basket flap and handle unit are all entirely made of plastic. In this way all the ‘Tango’ models are childsplay to manoeuvre – plus they are super quiet. And of course this series, too, conforms to all the product safety requirements of European standard DIN EN 1929.
Wanzl offers two different styles of the ‘Tango’: one with no shelf and a curved base to beat the shoplifters; and a standard version equipped with floor rack and/or fold-out crate rack. Both share the same excellent stability and quality of a standard, wire-made model. The ‘Tango’ comes with a wide choice of accessories, and is available in attractive colours and colour combinations. It can also be delivered in colours to match the store´s own corporate-identity concept.

| ‘Future Shopping’ from Wanzl [more] |
|
At EuroShop 2008 Wanzl is presenting its new project ‘Future Shopping’ for the first time. Innovative developments from the Self-Service Systems and Shopfitting Divisions are shown here in a fully integrated RFID-based solution for the retail world of tomorrow. Automatic logging of the goods, as shown in this concept, opens up a brand new style of shopping – time-saving, more flexible, and with no queues at the checkout. At the same time retailers benefit from greater cost-efficiency because RFID labels offer time savings in terms of entering product information and paying processes. Also this system helps keep stock losses down.
‘eGate’ system generation
‘Future Shopping’ incorporates shelves from the ‘wire tech’ shopfitting system, a ‘Tango’ plastic shopping trolley fitted with a special on-board computer, and a self-checkout consisting of a computerised ‘CERTOiPAY’ pay station and the new ‘eGate’ exit gate from Wanzl. ‘eGate’ is a new-generation system which can be used in the entrance area of stores, as well as in self-checkout areas, as an exit gate. In addition to the impressive intelligent technology, ‘eGate’ systems are also attractively designed. ‘eGate’ systems are controlled via a microprocessor and software which enables them to be integrated into a LAN network or the buildings management system of the store. The latter activates the automatic opening of the gate towards the exit, for example, in cases of fire alarm. In addition ‘eGate’ systems are fitted with many functions that make store entrance areas more secure, and help reduce stock losses.
Integrated system
In the ‘Future Shopping’ project, the on-board computer and the pay station are developments by Wanzl´s partner Wincor Nixdorf. Wanzl fitted the ‘wire tech’ shelves and the ‘Tango’ shopping trolleys with integrated RFID reading antennae in order to facilitate automated logging of product flows. If a customer takes an item from the shelf, this is automatically logged by the system, and the information passed to the store´s merchandise information system for updating ongoing stock data. As the items are laid in the basket, they are logged and the running total to pay is displayed on the handle of the trolley. Items taken out of the trolley are immediately deducted from this total. On reaching the checkout all the data is passed to the self-checkout till which prints out a list of the purchases. After the goods have been paid for the ‘eGate’ exit gate attached to the till area opens automatically for a pre-defined period of time, to enable the customer to pass through with his purchases.

| Power seller & space-saver [more] |
Enormous potential revenues await your exploitation: fast-moving consumer goods with short throughput and storage times, high marginal returns and low cost of premises, such as sweets and snacks, promise profits. Correct placement and good visibility of promotional goods, which are often seasonal, are essential to success, according to a recent study by EHI Retail Institute. The new foldable stacking baskets from Wanzl are the ideal way to present these ranges clearly and effectively. The stacking baskets can be put together rapidly without tools for short-term sales promotions. The reinforced basket base and sturdy basket construction, combined with their high-quality production, are designed to support heavy loads. Their surface finish also guarantees excellent appearance in-store, for a long time. Once the seasonal or promotional items have been sold off, the baskets are quickly taken apart by the sales staff and can be folded and stacked, stored in the warehouse cheaply taking up minimal space, or transported by lorry. Wanzl offers an extensive range of accessories for its practical stacking baskets, such as a mobile pedestal for changing their locations quickly in the outlet, as well as separating grills and scanner price rails. |

| Securing the Check-Out [more] |
| German-Chinese cooperation [more] |
Commitment at the company's site in Germany and in the strongly growing Chinese market: in the year of its 60th anniversary, and one month before the opening of the 21,000-square-metre plant expansion at the corporate head office in Leipheim, Wanzl commenced production at its new Chinese branch in mid-May.
For more than ten years now, Wanzl has been active in the Chinese market with its own branch for national and international trade customers. Over a construction period of two years, a nearly 25,000-square-metre modern production plant with an adjoining administrative complex arose on the 70,000-square-metre company site in Shanghai. Wanzl has further production facilities in Germany, France and the Czech Republic. Due to the strong growth in trade activities and the rising demand from the almost 1.3 billion consumers in China, Wanzl opted for a new building on its own grounds which also offers future expansion possibilities. The new plant is EN ISO 9000-certified and works according to total quality management principles. EN ISO 14000 environmental certification is currently in preparation. The new Wanzl plant in China provides optimal production and logistics processes, and the latest work conditions according to Western standards. A surface processing facility is already in planning to ensure that the products manufactured are of perfect quality. In addition, significant investments have been made in occupational health and safety and environmental protection. Around 270 employees are employed in the new branch. "The new plant in China also supports the production site in Germany." Gottfried Wanzl, Managing Director
With the new plant, Wanzl guarantees that the company will optimally meet the needs of business in prospering China, in the bordering, high-growth Asiatic states, and in Australia, New Zealand, India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the USA. In 2006, Wanzl produced over 200,000 shopping trolleys at its Chinese site, and the figure is rising. Its new branch in Shanghai allows Wanzl, the world market leader in shopping trolleys with an annual production of 1.8 million units, to strengthen its leading position as a partner of international trade. At the same time, the new branch in China provides support for production at the company sites in Leipheim and Kirchheim.
Wanzl is a globally operating company with the seven business divisions: Self-Service Systems, Displays, Shopfitting, Security Products, Logistics+Industry, Passenger Handling Services and Hotel Service. Today, 60 years after the company was founded, Wanzl employs over 3,300 staff, and has production plants in Germany, France, the Czech Republic and China, as well as 18 branches and numerous agencies in all important markets worldwide. This year, Wanzl was awarded the "Bavarian Quality Prize 2007" for its universal total quality management by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Economy, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich. |

| New Developments from Wanzl [more] |

The consumer decides on the success of a product at the PoS. 50 to 70 percent of all purchase decisions are made directly in front of the shelf. The presentation of merchandise plays an important role in the product's overall attractiveness and increases the customer's readiness to purchase it. At the same time, however, retailers are under heavy cost pressure. With its new PALLETi and Joker display lines, Wanzl delivers innovative solutions. Both models are suitable for all-purpose use in the food and non-food sector and open up new sales perspectives while strengthening product and store branding at the same time.
The new Wanzl PALETTi display is the ideal system for supermarkets that want to present goods both effectively and cost-efficiently. PALETTi consists of individual, freely combinable, stable wire elements that can be combined into wall, back-to-back, or corner solutions, and customised to the specific space requirements as well as the merchandise to be presented. The PALETTi system is set up on a Euro palette; a supplementary palette cover ensures the perfect appearance of the new unit. PALLETi can hold large amounts of merchandise. Thanks to a wide range of accessories like wire shelves, side baskets, and blister hooks, this is the ideal presentation system for numerous products. In addition, PALETTi can be filled in the warehouse and then transported by forklift to the PoS. Other benefits include rapid assembly and disassembly as well as space-saving storage until the next use.
The new Joker display, which can be assembled and disassembled quickly without tools, is sure to impress thanks to its clear layout and slim construction. The variable height bottom tray allows flexible filling with different product groups and adapts to the quantity of the presented goods at the same time. Joker is equally versatile in the sales area too: it can be positioned as a wall-mounted shelf, back-to-back, on its own, or directly at the checkout unit. The top signs, available as an accessory, help reinforce brand claims and corporate branding. Wanzl offers the Joker display as a stationary as well as a mobile model with castors. In the warehouse, Joker can be stored flat to save space.

Only 45 percent of all purchase decisions in food retailing are specifically planned by the customer. More than half of all purchases are influenced through advertising at point of sale. This is the result of a study by the Point of Purchase Advertising International (POPAI) association.
Even consumers who bring a prepared shopping list can be positively influenced by PoS advertising.
The new Wanzl Promobox 2 coin deposit system, which is integrated into the shopping trolley handle, promotes purchase decisions because the Promobox and its advertising surfaces are always in the customer's field of view.
Targeted advertising at PoS
Promobox 2 has two generous advertising surfaces – one for alternating offers and another for the market logo. The advertising inlay for special offers and promotions by the market can be replaced quickly and easily within 15 seconds. This means that customers can always be kept informed of changing product promotions and offers up-to-the-minute at minimal cost. The self-adhesive market logo integrated into the front surface promotes your company's CI concept, as well as providing unique identification of ownership.
Ready for marketing activities
Every Promobox 2 has a special compartment for integrating transponders and other RFID components which can be used to perform customer frequency counts, activate video advertising and undertake trolley run studies.
Integrated coin deposit system
The Promobox 2 is also a reliable and proven coin deposit system for shopping trolleys, integrated into the ergonomic handle.
Made from weather-resistant, shockproof and breakproof plastic, the Promobox 2 supports an organised trolley recirculation and supply system that saves on costs and staff. Both new trolleys and models already in use – minimum trolley volume 100 litres – can be fitted with the Promobox 2.

Customers value cleanliness and working self-service systems in-store. According to the "Discount 2006" study, which highlighted emerging trends in retail commerce and was carried out by the corporate consulting firm bbw Marketing, the importance of service, competent advice and attentiveness will rise over the next ten years. The six new service modules from "Wanzl Services" support this trend: They guarantee uninterrupted operation of the valuable, long-lasting self-service systems from Wanzl for the entire life cycle of the product, even in frequent daily use. The new service modules also offer regular technical maintenance with the skill and expertise of the manufacturer. They prevent problems with product liability and maintain the value of investments in the long term. The resulting increase in customer satisfaction can lead to significantly higher sales for the store.
The "Install" service module includes installation services for customer guidance systems, trolley shelters and shopping trolley refits; the "Repair" module offers
repair services for self-service systems; and the "Parts" service ensure the use of
original Wanzl spare parts, preserving the full three-year warranty.
With the "Clean" service, Wanzl provides a cleaning service for shopping and transport trolleys that does not damage their surfaces and is environmentally friendly.
Depending on the number of trolleys, they are steam-cleaned manually or using
the Wanzl mobile washer, which cleans up to 1,200 shopping trolleys immaculately and hygienically to a consistent quality using sterile water. The specially developed cleaning agent we use, "Swip", is certified and combines environmental safety with proven food hygiene. Customers appreciate the cleanliness, and the store also profits by gaining the edge on the competition and preserving the value of the shopping trolleys long-term. Our solid service network ensure the presence of an "installer on site" for the four "Install", "Repair", "Parts" and "Clean" services. Wanzl also offers the two modules "Concept" and "Finance" as an additional service. The "Concept" service module includes consulting and planning services for shopping trolley logistics and for optimal positioning of customer guidance systems and trolley shelters. The "Finance" service provides companies with individual leasing options for self-service systems, allowing them to profit from greater flexibility and liquidity. The individual service modules can be selected and grouped in any combination. In addition, Wanzl offers several tailor-made service packages.
Greater customer satisfaction with the new "Wanzl Services".

Four years ago Wanzl introduced its new plastic shopping trolley, Tango. Retailers around the world are delighted with the benefits of this new plastic model and orders have been growing constantly. Now, with the rise in average shopping volumes of European consumers, Wanzl is launching another, bigger Tango model, with a 220-litre basket.
RFID-compatible
Just like the 160-litre version, the new Tango combines top quality with lots of attractive features. The 220-litre Tango is also an effective tool in combating stock losses, as it enables almost 100% identification of EAS labels – thanks to its all-plastic basket, without any metal reinforcement. The new model is also fully ready for tomorrow´s RFID technology.
Light and quiet
Another advantage of the Tango 220 is its low weight. It is an average of 8 kilograms lighter than a conventional wire trolley, because the basket, basket flap and handle unit are made entirely of plastic. Even when fully laden the Tango 220 is easy to push and steer, and it´s nice and quiet. In addition, the new model also meets the stringent product safety requirements of the European standard DIN EN 1919.
Lots of options
Wanzl is offering the Tango in two styles – with a curved base and without a platform (to reduce theft), and a classic model fitted as standard with a pull-out crate rack. In both models the trolley has the same proven stability and quality of the classic wire trolleys. Wanzl supplies the Tango 220 as standard with a child´s seat, which can double as an extra shelf for shopping. A wide range of accessories are available for the Tango. Also, Wanzl is supplying the new stylish Tango 220 in a choice of attractive colours and colour combinations, to fit in with the individual store´s corporate identity concept.

| Stylish, practical space dividers [more] |

According to the latest survey by the British Centre of Retail Research (CCR) German stores are losing out to the tune of 5.65 billion euros per year through shoplifting. Across Europe the loss amounts to a huge 29 billion euros. The only way stores can combat this problem is to have an effective system of theft-prevention in place. Wanzl has now come up with a new-style solution for the retail trade – a space-divider system called Railix. This ingenious new system combines effective theft-prevention with good looks and easy assembly.
Effective against shoplifting
The individual elements in the Railix system are slotted together via plastic profiles to create a gap-free closure. No goods can be passed through these gaps, which makes Railix an effective tool in reducing shoplifting. At the same time the windproof panels protect the employees from draughts and thereby help reduce loss of working time through illness.
Protecting value
An important component in the Railix system are the base units which finish level with the floor. This protects the space-dividers against damage occurring from trolleys being pushed against them, for example. Also this feature means they are easy to clean, by hand or by machine.
Ultimate flexibility
The Railix space-divider panels offer tremendous scope for free combination, to suit a wide range of applications. Thanks to the corner units which can be fitted steplessly at angles between 90 to 270°, it´s possible to put together all kinds of variations, and to make changes as required. Railix is available in a wide choice of materials, for example wire glass, acrylic glass, wood or plastic. A range of surface finishes for the bases open up even more design scope. |

Automatic security at check-outs
Wanzl´s new check-out barrier, called 'automatic', is a unique new product featuring a brand new idea – it is the world´s first check-out barrier that automatically locks straight from the till. The check-out PC directly controls the check-out barrier, sending an electrical impulse to lock it as soon as the till is closed down. Unstaffed tills are thus always properly secured and not dependent on a member of staff remembering to lock the barrier. Once locked, the customers can no longer pass through with unpaid goods. This new automatic lock increases security in the store and helps reduce stock losses. For an amazing one in every 200 shopping trolleys passes through the check-out with unpaid goods, according to a recent survey of stock losses by the EuroHandelsinstitut (EHI) in cooperation with the German retailers´ federation, the Hauptverband des Deutschen Einzelhandels (HDE). In total stock losses in German stores amount to 4.1 billion euros per year. With Wanzl´s 'automatic' locking check-out barrier, the service personnel also has the option of locking the barrier manually, via an operating panel. To open it again, the member of staff uses a special key. Wanzl supplies 'automatic' in a range of styles – for integration in the check-out table, in space dividers or as a floor-standing model.

| New presentation systems Cube and Paletti [more] |

 |
Tough competition forces retailers to modernise and modify their shop interiors and points of sale. An effective goods presentation system is a major element contributing to the attractiveness of products, encouraging customers to spend their money. At the same time shopkeepers are under tremendous price pressure. These are the results of the "Shop-Monitor 2004+" study run by the international retail network EHI-EuroHandelsinstitut. Wanzl Metallwarenfabrik provides solutions to all these problems with their new goods presentation systems CUBE and PALETTi. The systems are multifunctional and open up new sales perspectives, and both ranges also underline the individuality of store branding and corporate identity in the food and non-food sectors.
CUBE – truly customised
CUBE is of modular design and can be adapted to suit all shop layouts and sizes, accommodates a wide range of products and features a number of different functions. The triangular and rectangular components can be combined to table groups or stacked, extended, combined and recombined to create displays of varying dimensions. With this high degree of flexibility CUBE is an extraordinarily economical presentation system which meets all display requirements with maximum versatility . Markets can also choose from a variety of individual side sections of wire or acrylic glass, bases with various surfaces and printable front panels. These features, combined with all-round aluminium profiles, make CUBE a modern, clear-cut and attractive option for retail outlets. The system's design ensures excellent accessibility to goods from all sides and a clear view of the displayed goods. Wanzl also supplies mobile versions upon request.
PALETTi – tons of options - low price
PALETTi, the second Wanzl innovation, is the right system for markets looking for an effective and inexpensive system for goods presentation. PALETTi is a series of robust and variable wire elements which are combined and placed on the top of a euro pallet. An additional pallet panel trim rounds off the look of the new unit perfectly. PALLETi can accommodate large quantities, and with its versatile range of accessories such as side-mounted baskets and blister pack hooks it is the perfect presentation system for many products. PALETTi can already be loaded in the storeroom and transported with a lowlift truck to the point of sale. Additional advantages are fast assembly and disassembly and space-saving storage until the unit is once more needed in the saleroom.

Great for older people and single households
Already one in five Germans is older than 60, and by the year 2030 one in three will have reached this age. So far many companies, and in particular the retail trade, have neglected the needs of this target group, or at least have not sufficiently catered for them. These were some of the findings in a recent survey, called 'Perfect Agers 2010 – Pensioners at the POS', conducted by the Institute or Retail Research of the University of Cologne, in cooperation with the communication firm BBDO Germany. Wanzl is one company that responded early on to this trend, by offering a special 'Light' shopping trolley alongside its standard trolleys with basket capacities between 130 and 180 litres. The 'Light' shopper holds 70 litres, and is specially designed to suit the needs of the 50+ generation of customers.
The 50+ generation – Happy shoppers
This versatile model is easy to push and highly manoeuvrable, and thanks to its shallow basket, loading is simple. These features make the 'Light' shopping trolley ideal for customers just buying in a few items in between the big weekly shop. Certainly the 50+ generation is a very attractive group of the population for the retail trade. They have high spending power*, with 19 million euros each month being spent on goods and services. Also they take more time over their shopping. They value service more, and when a store gets it right, it finds that the over 50s will remain faithful customers for a long time.
'Light' advantages for smaller households
Another trend that is also contributing to changes in shopping habits is the constantly growing number of single-person or small households in Germany and across Europe (acc. to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany and Eurostat). These households buy less, because they need less day-to-day, but they go shopping more frequently. Increasingly they prefer fresh produce, because they know it´s important to have a healthy diet, and because they are concerned about food scandals. Shops that offer Wanzl´s 'Light' shopping trolley alongside their standard models are responding to these changing shopping habits. In the United Kingdom, where great emphasis is placed on customer service, Wanzl´s 'little shopper' is already a familiar sight in stores. But the 'Light' shopping trolley has another advantage, too – because it is small and convenient to use, it encourages people not to use their own bags as they go round the store. The sales personnel can then see the goods easily in the basket. Wanzl´s 'Light' trolley thus adds up to an effective way of helping to reduce stock losses that occur through theft.
